Inspired by Chris Baty’s book “No Plot? No Problem!” and his yearly contest: NaNoWriMo, we hold a novel writing challenge each summer.
Here are the basics:
The challenge is to write a 50,000 word novel in one calendar month. We hold the challenge in June, which means you have 30 days. That’s it. You see, what most people lack when attempting their “Great American Novel,” is a deadline.
Granted, what you write in such a short time period may not be Shakespeare, but that’s the point. At the end of 30 days you will have written a novel. Take a break, then come back alter and edit. Maybe you’ll rewrite it completely now that you’ve fleshed out ideas and characters, or maybe you’ll set the book on your coffee table and prop your feet up in satisfaction. No more procrastinating, just write it.
During the writing month the focus is Quantity NOT Quality. Keep your fingers typing and you might be amazed by what happens.
